The IIM is over 60 years old premier professional Metallurgical Institute set up to promote and advance the study and practice of the Science and the art of making and treating of metals and alloys and to promote just an honorable practice in Metallurgical profession. The IIM, Kolkata chapter is the oldest chapter of IIM.

It is serving the Metallurgical Fraternity through different activities in highlighting emerging challenges and such opportunities since its inception in 1966. The chapter is planning to introduce a number of new activities - such as consultancy, training for members to serve the emerging need of the metal industry.
